Author Diann Shaddox

Posted by Paranormalangelblog at Wednesday, May 29, 2013 0 comments

This weeks author in the spotlight is  Diann Shaddox. Author of A Faded Cottage

 Diann’s Bio
I would like to introduce myself. My name is Diann Shaddox, if you haven’t noticed, Diann, two n’s and no e is spelled different.

What is it that you might want to know about me? First, I write love stories, sci/fi, mysteries, & children’s books and I’m the author of A FADED COTTAGE. I’m a member of the Wyandotte Nation, & I have Essential Tremors. Please follow me on twitter @yahtasay and check out my website www.diannshaddox.com

Second, I grew up in southwest Arkansas, in a rural town, where Main Street has diagonal parking, old brick buildings containing a bank, old fashion pharmacy, and even a Dime Store. The small town of Nashville is surrounded by farms and rolling countryside and is a modest, but quaint southern town where football still reigns supreme. A town that brought my imagination to life, hot summer evenings catching fireflies, riding bikes all over the small town and swimming in creeks and lakes.

I’m still a true southern girl, but my imagination in my books spreads over the world, with fantasy books that begin in Maine, the city of Boston, San Francisco, and even go to the remote Greek islands.

I’m a Native American and a member of the Wyandotte Nation. I also have a collection of Native American children’s tales that I’m working on for future books.

My southern roots emerge in my first published novel, A Faded Cottage.

I love meeting new people; we all have our own stories to tell in our books of life and I look forward to hearing from you.

A FADED COTTAGE
A chance meeting on the beach of Hathaway Cove in the summer of 1952, brings Quaid & Sandy, two teenagers from different worlds, together, falling in love.
A love that you only find once in your life.
A love that lasted a lifetime.
But a lost letter keeps Quaid & Sandy apart.
Now, thirty years later, fate, a painting left in a faded cottage, draws Quaid back to Hathaway Cove to that same beach where he began painting as a young boy, the place he met his one true love, and the place he let her go.
But will fate keep them apart, once more?

 Questions and Answers

If you could be any paranormal creature what would you be
A ghost, but, I would want to be a ghost that could move from place to place, not one that would be stuck in one home.
Do you have any writing ritual? if so what?
Not really, I write anywhere and anytime of the day, however most of the time it is in my cubby office. I do like to write late at night. Nighttime seems to bring my dreams in my head to life.
Who inspired you to become a writer?
I became a writer because I had so many stories to tell. I do love Edgar R. Burroughs, he had an unending imagination.
What is the strangest place your writing has taken you.
This question is difficult. In my mind I’ve traveled the world in tall sailing ships, on trains, gone to remote islands, deep into the center of the Earth, to other worlds and even to Haides.
Traditional book or ebook?
“A Faded Cottage” is in print and ebook.
Where do you get your writing inspiration from?
My imagination, even as I child I could see and hear things in my mind.
What story/ character  have you most enjoyed creating ?
This is even more difficult to answer and I will let my readers decide in the future.
how did you decide what to have on your cover?
“A Faded Cottage is set in Hathaway Cove, SC on the beach, so I had to have a beach scene.

Random fact Monday

Everyone loves a good mystery. Who’s the bestselling commercial fiction author of all time? Not Meyer. Not Rowling. Not even King. No, the bestselling author of all time is Agatha Christie. Since 1920 her books have sold over a billion copies in the English language, and another billion in more than 45 other languages. She is outsold only by the Bible and William Shakespeare

Spellcaster by Claudia Grey

Posted by Paranormalangelblog at Sunday, May 26, 2013 0 comments

Review
Let me start by saying that Claudia  Grey is one of my favorite author. The way her story transports you and makes you part of the characters world and Spellcaster is no exception.

Spellcaster tells the story of Nadia a young  witch who along with her brother and father has been abandoned by her mother. So looking for a fresh start they pick up and move to a idyllec costal town, but not all is what it seems in this quiet town.

There are 4 key characters in the story each playing there own intrical part in the story you are bound to find one to love .

There is always the love interest and in this case it fall to a young boy named
Mateo who has his own issues to deal with.

I did find the ending to be a  little anticlimactic, given the lead up through out the story. But all in all this is differently  one worth putting on your to read list this year

Synopsis

When Nadia’s family moves to Captive’s Sound, she instantly realizes there’s more to it than meets the eye. Descended from witches, Nadia senses a dark and powerful magic at work in her new town. Mateo has lived in Captive’s Sound his entire life, trying to dodge the local legend that his family is cursed - and that curse will cause him to believe he’s seeing the future … until it drives him mad. When the strange dreams Mateo has been having of rescuing a beautiful girl—Nadia—from a car accident come true, he knows he’s doomed.

Despite the forces pulling them apart, Nadia and Mateo must work together to break the chains of his family’s terrible curse, and to prevent a disaster that threatens the lives of everyone around them.

Embers and Echoes (Wildefire #2) by Karsten Knight

Review
I loved WIldefire. So I was very excited to see what would happen next

Embers & Echoes started exactly where the first book ended, and with that huge cliffhanger ending in Wildefire, expect another thrill ride, lots of suspense, actions, mysteries and of course romance.

What I loved about Karsten Knight's books is the humor and wit that he injects into the story. This book doesn't lack of those. It balances the story especially when the book is full of suspense and heart-throbbing actions. There are old enemies, old foes, new friends.

The only down side is the fact that for Ash everything she touches seems to go to hell. Whether it is friends  or family nothing seems to every go right for her.
By the end of the story you honestly can not help but feel sorry for her and hope that as great as a god or goddess would be you never have a friend like her

The mysteries and twists are even more intriguing. This book is amazing. The secrets and the revelations aren't what I expected either. There are more secrets from the past that are yet to reviled and I'm very excited to see them revealed on the next book. I enjoyed it and I am eagerly anticipating the third. Full of actions, mysteries, suspense, wit and even drama, this book will put you at the edge of your seat. Fingers crossed  things will work out for Ash.

Synopsis

Ashline Wilde may have needed school to learn that she is actually a reincarnated goddess, but she’s ready to move beyond books. She leaves her California boarding school behind and makes for Miami, where she meets a new group of deities and desperately seeks her sister Rose, the goddess of war. But she’s also looking for love—because even though her romance with Cole had to be snuffed, Ash is a volcano goddess—and she doesn’t get burned.

This sequel to the edgy and action-packed Wildefire continues a fiery drama on an immortal scale.

Interview questions and answers :

Q: If you could be any paranormal creature what would you be?
A:   Thats a hard question!! LOL. I don't really know... maybe a witch, because witches seem to have lots of powers all rolled into one body. I'm not sure I would want to be a shifter... I mean think of all the clothes I would ruin! lol. Yeah, so definitely a witch.

Q :Do you have any writing ritual? if so what?

A:    YES! Before I sit down to write I run around my house with a pot on my head and sing really loudly. Then I go outside and roll in the yard. Okay, I don't do that. ha ha ha ha. The real answer is not really. That's terrible isn't it? I used to... a long time ago. I would get up in the morning, get my kids off to school, workout and then sit down to write. Now my days are similar but I find that marketing, promoting, etc. take up a huge chunk of my writing time. I would love to get back into some kind of routine or writing schedule, I think that would make life as a writer a lot easier.

Q:Who inspired you to become a writer?

A:  I think lots of things inspired me to be a writer. A love of reading. A love of creativity and story telling. When I was very young I really loved to read RL Stine. I think he inspired me as well to eventually become a writer.

Q: What is the strangest place your writing has taken you.

A: Well... my writing takes me to strange places online... researching some odd things... I often wonder if the FBI will knock on my door asking about why I research things like what bodies look like that have been at the bottom of the lake.... ha ha ha ha.

Q:Traditional book or ebook?

A:  Both!! I love them both. I think paperbacks are traditional, they are fun to hold and look at, like art pieces. But ebooks are great space savers and I love taking my reader on my treadmill, something I couldn't do with a paperback.

Q:Where do you get your writing inspiration from?
A:Everywhere! People, music, places, TV, I love to people watch in public, sometimes I get the best thoughts, ha ha ha. Music is a good one for me too and driving in the car is where I have gotten some of my best plot twists. I think when I drive I kind of zone out (Ahhhh! stay off the road here I come) and it makes room for the big ideas to come to me.

Q:What story/ character  have you most enjoyed creating ?

A: This is really, really hard. I love all my characters and books. They are like children to me. The book I loved writing the most so far I think is Recalled. Dex was so easy for me to write and I just totally fell in love with him. But I think my most favorite character to write so far is Riley from the Heven and Hell series. Man, he cracks me up. Sometimes when I write him I would sit at the computer and laugh. My husband would say "Are you writing Riley again?" Ha ha ha. The answer is always yes.

Random Monday Fact

Posted by Paranormalangelblog at Monday, May 06, 2013 0 comments

A rare first edition of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland sold for 1.5 million at auction in New York.
This makes it the most valuable children's book ever sold.
It was Carroll's own working copy, so that probably contributed to the inflated price. There are only 22 copies of the 1865 first edition known to exist today, and only five made it to some private owner’s hot little hands.

This fact got me think what is the rarest book you?
