Synopsis

EMBRACE THE WONDER. Book 1 in the Medoran Chronicles

With just one step, sixteen-year-old Alexandra Jennings's world changes - literally.

Dreading her first day at a new school, Alex is stunned when she walks through a doorway and finds herself stranded in Medora, a fantasy world full of impossibilities.

Desperate to return home, she learns that only a man named Professor Marselle can help her... but he's missing.

While waiting for him to reappear, Alex attends Akarnae Academy, Medora's boarding school for teenagers with extraordinary gifts. She soon starts to enjoy her bizarre new world and the friends who embrace her as one of their own, but strange things are happening at Akarnae, and Alex can't ignore her fear that something unexpected... something sinister... is looming.

An unwilling pawn in a deadly game, Alex's shoulders bear the crushing weight of an entire race's survival. Only she can save the Medorans, but what if doing so prevents her from ever returning home?

Will Alex risk her entire world - and maybe even her life - to save Medora?

Review

Akarnae by Lynette Noni is truly a wonderful YA novel. I enjoyed every minute.

When her parents's latest archaelogical project sends them off to the Siberian wilderness, Alexandra Jennings is given no choixe and is sent off to boarding school in Oregon.

Dreading the upcoming months without her parents, Alex is shocked when she walks through the doorway of her new headmaster's office and literally falls into another world. With no hope of returning to Earth, or Freya as the Medorans call it, until the mysterious headmaster  returns to the Academy, Alex has to make the most of her new life.

Keeping her otherworldly origins a secret, Alex soon finds herself pretending to be Akarnae Academy's latest transfer student, a transition pulled off with the help of her two new friends Bear and Jordan. The easy-going, comedic pair were quick to befriend Alex at her most vulnerable moment. When she fell into their world. Their immediate bond with each other makes it feel as though they've been the best of friends for ages.

I loved their easy going friendship and how laid-back yet naturally protective they were of each other.

Jordan came from a rich  family , with parents who well think of him as a acessories. Though he is as far from a rich  spoilt brat as can be. He is your typical easy-going teenager.

Bear on the other hand came from a large, loving family. The moment you enter their house you are made to feel like family.

Akarnae Academy, a school for Medora's most gifted and brightest students, they teach everything combat to equestrian.  With a library that is like no other library.  It contains secrets that only the chosen one can unlock. And lucky for Alex she just happens to be the chosen one.

This  magical story will pull you and have you turning pages to the very end.
Lynette Noni's Akarnae is the perfect introduction to the Medoran Chronicles. with endless possibilities  for Alex, her friend and Akarnae.

I can't wait to see what happens next.

Megan Miranda interview

Posted by Paranormalangelblog at Thursday, February 12, 2015 0 comments

i have bee lucky enough to have the opportunity to interview  author Megan Miranda about her latest book Soul print, inspiration and much more.

Welcome Megan !

1. Soul Print is your latest book to be released. Where did the concept for Soul Print come from?

The idea for Soulprint came from a question I had years ago, when I was studying science in school. We had been learning about the human genome project—where scientists were mapping each section of our DNA to what it coded for—and I wondered: what if scientists found the soul? What would that look like? What would that mean? How could we use that….and, in the case of this story, how might that be used against us?

2. When you are writing your stories to you base your characters on people you know in real life or are they completely fictional?

They are typically completely fictional, though I do start to find pieces of different people in them when I read it back. The characters develop a life of their own as I write, but I realize that I do give them pieces from others here and there—including myself.

3. Covers can often be what inspires and intrigues a reader to pick up the book. When you are having your covers created what  is it you look for ? Who designed the covers?

The truth is, I have very little artistic vision when it comes to cover designs. The cover designers at Bloomsbury are responsible for the covers (and I have loved them all!). What I hope for is that they will capture the feel or tone of the book, and I think I’ve really lucked out in that regard. I adore the covers for Soulprint (both the US and UK versions) – I think they’re very striking and capture the essence at the heart of the story. And as an author, that’s really what I hope for most.

4. Do you have any strange writing habits (like standing on your head or writing in the shower)?

Haha, now I kind of wish I had a strange writing habit J I don’t think I do…. I sit at my desk in my office, and I type away. Sometimes this also involves coffee and Pop-Tarts.

5. There have been some amazing books written throughout history. If you could have written any book in history what book would it be?

Oh there are so many amazing books that I have adored and wished I had come up with myself. But on the flip side, I think there’s something very particular about an author and their books. They are all very personal. I am a believer of the saying that only you can write your book. So I guess the same goes the other way—I couldn’t have written anyone else’s book, either.

6. Do you read your reviews? Do you respond to them, good or bad?

If they’re sent to me by my editor (as the professional ones are), they turn up in my inbox, and I read them. If they are sent directly to me over social media, occasionally I will take a look. Other than that, I don’t go looking for reviews, though I do appreciate them all. The way I see it, the reviews are for other readers of that outlet, and not so much for me. I have a lot of input throughout the drafting and revising process from critique partners, my agent, and my editors. After that, the book belongs to readers. It will mean different things to different people, and will resonate differently as well. At publication, I have to let go of it a little.

7. Is there one subject you would never write about as an author? What is it?

I haven’t thought about this before. On the contrary, I usually have too many things I want to write, but not enough time to write them all. I also try to never say never….

8. What does a typical writing day look like for you?

This has changed a lot in the last few years, as my kids are now school age. Now I pretty much work standard hours when they’re at school. When I’m drafting: We walk to school, and on the way home, I’ll start brainstorming to myself, so when I’m at the computer, I’m ready to start. I typically work until it’s time to pick them up. If I’m under deadline, or juggling book promotion, I will hop back on the laptop after they go to sleep at night. But I really try to segregate writing time from kid time, as much as I can.

9. What is next for you?

I have 2 books scheduled to be published in 2016. First, my debut adult suspense novel, which tells the story of 2 women who go missing 10 years apart, and whose cases are linked by the same group of friends in a small North Carolina town. The story covers the span of 2 weeks, and it’s told backwards.

I also have a new YA about a girl named Kelsey who has been raised on fear by her mother, who was a victim of abduction many years earlier. When her mother goes missing, Kelsey begins to question the sequence of events she’s grown up with, and realizes she may have just set something dangerous in motion.

Soulprint By Megan Miranda

Synopsis

With the science of soul-fingerprinting a reality, Alina Chase has spent her entire life imprisoned for the crimes her past-self committed. In an attempt to clear her name, Alina unintentionally trades one prison for another when she escapes, aided by a group of teens whose intentions and motivations are a mystery to her. As she gets to know one of the boys, sparks fly, and Alina believes she may finally be able to trust someone. But when she uncovers clues left behind from her past life that only she can decipher, secrets begin to unravel. Alina must figure out whether she’s more than the soul she inherited, or if she’s fated to repeat the past.

This compelling story will leave readers wondering if this fictional world could become a reality

Review

If you could find out who you were is a past life would you?

What if that decision was made for you and now you had to live with the consequences of what your soul did in a past life?

Well that is exactly what has happened to Alina. She has spent the last 17 years of her life isolated on a island, surrounded by guards, who  claim to be there to protect her. But they treat her like a prisoner.  Why ?  Because before she was born there was June. And when June died, Alina inherited her soul.

Enter Cameron, Casey and Dom, who plain on bracking her out.  They all have their own reasons for needing her, and not all of them have good intentions.

I really enjoyed Alina's character, though I found the fact she was so willing to trust intriguing.  I can see that throughout the story her need to not only belong but to prove that she is not the person people think she is.

As the story progress you can see how her relationship with both Cameron and Casey develops. How she slowly learn what it means to trust and have friends.

I like the the over all subject matter.  The idea the you could find out how you were in a past life.  Miranda calls into question the possibility of what could happen if we are to judge people by something as intangible as a soul and our past lives.

Soulprint  is a Innovative and invigorating read. Add this to your reading list today.

*I received a free ARC of Soulprint from Bloomsbury in exchange of an honest and unbiased review*

The mine order by Samantha Shannon

Paige Mahoney has escaped the brutal prison camp of Sheol I, but her problems have only just begun: many of the survivors are missing and she is the most wanted person in London...

As Scion turns its all-seeing eye on the dreamwalker, the mime-lords and mime-queens of the city's gangs are invited to a rare meeting of the Unnatural Assembly. Jaxon Hall and his Seven Seals prepare to take centre stage, but there are bitter fault lines running through the clairvoyant community and dark secrets around every corner. Then the Rephaim begin crawling out from the shadows. But where is Warden? Paige must keep moving, from Seven Dials to Grub Street to the secret catacombs of Camden, until the fate of the underworld can be decided

Review

The Mime Order  is the second book in the series by Samantha Shannon.  The story hits the ground running, picking up where Bone Season ended.

Pagie might have escaped Sheol I but she  is still in danger and only time will show us who  she can and can not trust. Paige is now the  most-wanted person in London. Leaving her with no choice but to return to the life she used to know. Just when she thought her life couldn't get any more complicated the Underlord and his gang are murdered.

Throughout the story you also get a better understanding of the world Paige lives in. The mind games and manipulation you see unfold helps you to get a better understanding  of the relationship between the Underlords and the community around them.

Paige was a very strong character. She is realistic and intelligent, although at timea she has a react now and deal with the consequences later mentality.

This story is a combination of  action, magic, hope and revolution.  Therw are so many twist and turns that will keep you guessing to the end. Not to mention the last three pages will leave you begging to find out what will happen next.

If you read book one, then you need to read book 2!

Thank you Bloomsbury for this ARC
